BAGELS!

It's been a while since we all got together to make bagels, but I think life events like these are about as evergreen as they come. What a night. . .

and now we're back

Hey everyone.

After quite the sabbatical, I'm back to reality. Working at TSN and shooting sporadically, I was told I'd be de-linked if I didn't update soon.

So without further adieu, I bring you Applefest: 2008.

Oh Golf, how thee I love

Shot golf yesterday. It was cold and miserable and I couldn't find anybody so I just zoomed around in a golf cart. But I usually enjoy shooting the sport because it gives you the opportunity to really get creative. I tried with these shots, and am not wholly unhappy with the results.

I bought a 50

And it's lovely. It's a 1.4, 50 mm fully manual beauty. This was one of my first picture with it.

Mama Ya Photos Continued

Mama Ya

On Sunday my project published, which was really cool. Overall I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out. My project was about a woman who mentors young women, and occasionally men, in our community. Her students call her Mama Ya, and she ends up being a parental figure for many of them. I really admire how freely she gives of her time and limited resources to try and guide as many of these kids as she can.

These are the photos that published with it. . . though not necessarily in that order. You can also check out the soundslides at:

I hope you all enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed working on it. . . which, come to think of it, I probably will continue to do.

Nothing is ever finished.

local election coverage

Tonight I hung out at the county administration building, where they confirm and announce local election results. I know covering elections tend to be formulaic and at times tedious, but I still become excited and infused with the kind of enthusiasm the election workers exude in gobs. Maybe it's our collective sleep depression, or maybe it's the thrill of democracy in action. . . who can tell? In any case, here are a few from my evening.

wolf dog

So about two weeks ago a Burton family's dog got loose and allegedly killed a cat. Animal control took it away for the night to appease the neighbors and then the next day decided it was probably a cross bread wolf dog, which are illegal in Michigan. The owners say it's a North American Indian Dog, which is a mix of a few breeds, including German Shepard and Husky. They're now involved with a legal battle with the animal control in Genesee County. I think the entire thing sounds idiotic, because the owners say they have papers for the dog and it's costing us money for the county to fight them. But here's a shot of their other North American Indian Dog. Just thought it was pretty.

The Big 1-0-0

This is my 100th post, as blogger informs me. Today I'm showing a few shots from a feature hunt I did up in Clio. It was bananas.

Thanks for looking.

Off to New York

Sunday I shot a small mass for a group of local people who are heading to New York this weekend to see the Pope. They were excited, and I struggled to get that across. In the end I went with graphic, and I'm pretty satisfied. I hope their trip is everything they expect it will be and more.

I love colour

as our cousins across the pond spell it. I want my own crayon set up. . . I think I head to the store and buy a box when I get off work tonight. It's been far too long since I colored anything with a crayon.

Randomness

Recent work. . . I feel like I've been lacking vision and the ability to see differently. So this is some of the stuff I've been producing lately. I'm not really sure what I need to do to make a change, but heaven knows I need one.
